superbond latex
Bonding Agent and Waterproofing Admixture
Description:
A synthetic rubber emulsion for adding to cement mortars where good adhesion and water resistance are required.
Uses :
Superbond Latex is a high quality emulsion that substantially increases the quantity of cement mortars, such as :
- Thin layer patching mortars
- Renders
- Floor screeds
- concrete repair mortars
- Abrasion-resistant linings
- Tile fixing mortars
- Masonry mortars
Advantage :
Superbond Latex provides the following beneficial properties to mortar:
- Extremely good adhesion
- Reduced shrinkage
- Greater elasticity
- Excellent water resistance
- Increased abrasion resistance
- Improved chemical resistance
- Non-toxic
- N.B. Superbond Latex does not re-emulsify, even in highalkaline conditions
Technical Data Type:
Acrylic Polymer Butadiene Rubber
Color:
White
Specific Gravity:
1.02kg/l
Storage Condition:
Free from frost
Shelf Life :
1year when unopened
Packaging:
- 5 L gallon
- 20 L pails
Instructions for Use Surface preparation:
Concrete surfaces should be clean, sound and free from oilgrease, cement laitance and all loosely adhering particles. Absorbent surfaces should be saturated thoroughly but no ponding
Materials:
Aggregates should be well graded and thoroughly washed,Sand particle size should correspond to the thickness of mortar to be applied and required surface finish.
Up to2mmthick 0 – 0.5 mm
2 -5 mm 0 -1.0 mm
5 -15mm 0 – 3.0 mm
over15 mm 0 – 6.0 mm
Dilution Rates:
Superbond Latex is generally added to the clean mixing water within the range 1:1 – 1:4 For all applications apart from sprayed on renders a bonding coat of Superbond Latex – water 1:1 mixed with fresh cement should be brushed into the SUPERBOND prepared surface. Subsequently morta application must be carried out whilst the bonding coat
is still wet.
Use and Application:
1. Bonding coat for rendering/Bonding between old and new concrete.
Coverage Consumption of Superbond Latex in kg/m 2 per cm. thickness
Superbond Latex 0.21 ltr.
Water 0.21 ltr.
Cement 0.89 kg.
Sand (< 0.5 mm.) 0.75 kg.
Note: Solutionsi ablend of Superbond Latex and water.
Solution: Superbond Latex : water = 1:1 (by volume)
Dry mix: Cement: Fine sand = 1:1 fo cement only (by volume)
Application: Add the dry sand and cement mixture to the Latex
Water solution and mix until as even creamy consistency is
achieved. Apply the Latex Slurry to the prewetted substrate
in 1-2 mm thickness and place new concrete or mortar
rendeimmediately
2. Repair Mortar
Solution: Superbond Latex : Water = 1:1 (by volume)
(for coat under10 mm.)
Superbond Latex : Water = 1:2 (by volume)
(for coat above 10 mm.)
Dry mix : Cement : Sand vary from 1:1 to 1:3 (by volume)
Granular size : Fine or coarse and depend on layer thickness
Consumption : 0.7 – 2.3 kg/m per cm thickness
3. Floor Screeds, Intermediate coat for water resistant
Solution : Superbond Latex : Water = 1:1 to 1:3 (by Volume)
depend on wearing resistance requirement
Dry mix : Cement : Sand = 1:2 to 1:3 (by volume)
Granular size : Coarse and (0-max.6 mm.) according coat
thickness
Consumption 0.4 – 1.9 kg/m per cm thickness
Note : For other application ie. Other ratio of solution and Dry mix consumption of Superbond Latex can be drawn from the table given.
Important Recommendation :
1. never use Superbond Latex and water as a bonding coat without adding cement (and fine sand).
2. Proper curing method is needed
3. Always prewet the absorbent substrate but no ponding
4. Multi-lay work always wet on wet
Cleaning :
Clean all tools and equipment with clean water immediately after use
